What is UltraViolet

The deployment of chlorine, chlorine dioxide, hypochlorite and other chemical substances to disinfect liquids can result in effects which are detrimental to health and the environment. UV technology is the better alternative to chlorine disinfection. The intensively researched and technologically mature disinfection method with ultraviolet light is adapted from the natural action of sunlight.

Ultraviolet light is light with very high energy levels and a wavelength of 200 - 400 nm. One of the most effective wavelengths for disinfection is 254 nanometres (nm).

Why use UV

Advantages

  • Max. disinfection performance at low UV transmittance

  • Effective, environmentally friendly inactivation of harmful bacteria, viruses, yeasts and parasites

  • No toxic by-products (e.g. THM by using chlorination)

  • Compact design with A/C cooling system integrated.

  • Superior lamp technology

  • Fully-automatic wiping system

  • Vario system for continously adjustable control of the UV output

  • Continuous monitoring using a highly selective calibrated UV sensor

Industries & Applications

Municipal Wastewater

Harnessing the power that nature uses to cleanse the rivers and streams – air, microbes, gravity, light – the wastewater industry has revolutionized sanitation and brought health to their communities, rivers, streams, lakes and oceans. Customer needs are evaluated and the right solution provided with low life cycle costs. When the water leaves the plant, it is no longer wastewater, but a highly valuable resource.

Municipal Potable Water

Water utilities have to do more with less, and it’s not easy. They must conserve energy, make the most of every drop of water, use staff most efficiently to hold down costs, while meeting stricter requirements and improving quality. MAN develops innovations to make processes and equipment more energy efficient, more reliable, more water efficient, and easier to operate.

Aquaculture

Aquaculture accounts for 50 percent of the fish consumed globally. This growing reliance on aquaculture presents huge opportunities, but also increases risks for producers. MAN offers processes vital to aquaculture success including disinfection of circulated water is essential to maintaining fish health, heat exchangers help maintain water temperatures within optimal ranges.

Food & Beverage

Reducing the water footprint of food production is a central goal of the food and beverage industry. MAN can assist in optimizing and managing every stage of a production facility’s water cycle. Customers utilize the complete water cycle solutions, such as energy efficient Flygt pumps to transport water throughout the facility, along with industry-leading Leopold filtration technologies, Sanitaire biological treatment and Wedeco disinfection and oxidation systems.

Marine

Marine environments are harsh. Whether on a merchant ship, naval vessel, or an offshore platform, space is at a premium, with scant room for spares for every process or piece of equipment. Shutting down is not an option, so the equipment selected must be rugged and proven reliable. MAN’s portfolio of products paired with process engineering expertise provides solutions that are energy efficient, effective and most of all, reliable.

Pharmaceuticals

From feedwater, through internal treatment to generate pharmaceutical grade water, to final discharge, water is critical to pharmaceutical manufacturing. Treatments must meet the standards of the relevant pharmacopeias for the intended use of the water, with different pharmaceutical grades requiring different treatments from purified water (PW) to highly purified water (HPW) to the highest purity of water for injection (WFI).
